Journalism

After winning prizes for poetry at junior school, there was a bit of a lag between that initial promise and the appearance of my work in print. I wanted some experience under my belt to inform my writing before I embarked on a new career and, by the early 90s, I felt ready. I got my first, paid, writing jobs, working as a freelancer for one of Future Publishing's magazines which led to me returning to the UK as an online journalist for the website, Fromtheterrace (FTT).

Print and online journalism provided the platform for moves into radio and TV broadcasting, most notably with Sky News. More recently, I've taken to podcasting, vlogging and blogging on football.

Music

After singing in a number of bands and signing a publishing deal, the world of international DJing beckoned through a company called Bacchus International (later taken over by Juliana's). It was too good to turn down. What followed was 11 years of exile from the UK and gigs in: Norway, France, Dubai, Egypt, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines. The last 5 of those 11 years were spent producing dance music primarily for a subsidiary of Sony BMG.

The next stop was a return to the UK and DJ work with Luminar Leisure, before a switch to music TV and involvement in Channel U. The channel was the birthplace of acts such as Ed Sheeran (who, like Jessie J, performed at our party in December 2010 at the O2 in London), N-Dubz, Tinie Tempah and Tinchy Stryder, to mention but a few, so it was an exciting time to be there. However, the parent company's financial problems forced Channel U to re-launch itself as Channel AKA; my involvement in its more profitable sister channel, Starz TV (formerly Fizz), became more hands on as we tried to turn the company around. Despite Starz TV's success, the company incurred losses elsewhere and the new parent company was liquidated. However, I continued to keep my interest in artist development.
Named as one of the UK's most 'influential tastemakers'.
